Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The GSBTS 2023 was originally scheduled from 21.07.2023 - 10.08.2023. However, the crew of FRV Solea could not be completed until the 28.07.2023 and bad weather conditions forced an early return to harbour of Cuxhaven on 07.08.2023. Hence FRV Solea left Cuxhaven on the 28.07.2023 and started the scientific program on the same day by setting crab pots in the southern zone of the offshore windfarm (OWF) "Meerwind Sud/Ost" located north of Helgoland. Pot fishing was continued on 29.07.2013, 31.07.2023 and 02.-06.08.2023. On the 29.07.2023 two experimental trawls were conducted south of OWP "Meerwind Sud/Ost". Due to bad weather conditions and logistics i.e. setting and retrieving the crab pots, the boarding of a film crew on 29.07.2023 and crew exchange on 31.07.2023, FRV Solea was entering the harbour of Helgoland on several dates during the cruise. This year's cruise focused on intensified fishing with crab pots to perform a pilot mark-and-recapture study. Therefore, Box N could be sampled only on two dates (30.07.2023 and 01.08.2023) with a total of 18 hauls (9 hauls per day). All other boxes were out of reach to be conducted in combination with pot fishing as steaming time would have been too long between the setting and retrieval of the pots. Each day at least one CTD cast was deployed resulting in a total of 13 casts during the entire cruise. In total, 20 otter board trawls of 30-minute duration and 27 crab pot sets were conducted.
