Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Scientific cruise. Vertical water column and surface water sampling for: A: Gas chemical analyses using a membrane inlet mass spectrometer will be conducted during vertical pump CTD casts to describe the impact of the cyanobacterial bloom on the dissolved gas distribution (e.g. molecular nitrogen, argon, oxygen). B: Quantification of the carbonate chemistry along the vessel track, in surface waters and in selected water depths at water stations. Samples will be taken with the CTD water sampler and analyzed for total alkalinity (TA), dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), pH, calcium (Ca2+), and stable isotopes of DIC (d13C-DIC) and water (d18O-H2O). Furthermore, surface water samples and water taken during pump CTD casts will be analyzed using a gas equilibrator system. C: Phytoplankton community will be analyzed on discret water samples taken with the CTD water sampler. Analyses will be performed by in vivo quantification using a pulse-shape recording and imaging flowcytometer (CytoSense). Additionally, a LISST 200x will be deployed togeter with the CTD water sampler for characterizing the particle pool size distribution. D: Cyanobacterial blooms will be sampled and biomass collected via filtration of surface waters. In addition, phytoplankton will be collected at selected stations using a CTD water sampler. E: Rates of nitrogen fixation and carbon dioxide uptake by bacterioplankton will be determined experimentally ex-situ with surface and water from the redoxcline by isotopically labeled carbon dioxide (13C) and nitrogen gas (15N) uptake of autotrophic and heterotrophic diazotrophic bacterioplankton.
