Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The research cruise HE630 was divided into two legs. The main objective of the research cruisewas student training aboard a research vessel. On board were eight students (Bachelor, Master, and PhD students) from the University of Oldenburg, as well as the Humboldt University Berlin. The students gained profound insight into oceanographic methods and working procedures, as well as into current research topics of the ICBM. One focus was the use and testing of a moored Argo Float with bio-optical sensors, as well as the operation of new measurement technology and evaluation software. The research area covered the southern German Bight (nature reserve area Borkum Riffgrund, coastal area north of the island Spiekeroog as well as the estuary of the Jade). During the cruise, the students and scientists had to work in shifts. Additionally, 15 students, supervisors, and lecturers of the bachelor program Marine Engineering (Jade University of Applied Sciences) and 18 students, supervisors, and lecturers of the master program Microbiology (ICBM, University of Oldenburg) gained a comprehensive insight into the scientific work on board in Wilhelmshaven during a day excursion. The cruise did not go quite as planned due to the weather conditions but was nevertheless a great success for all participants.

CTD-Stations
Conductivity-temperature-depth profiles were measured using a Seabird SBE 911plus CTD . The CTD was equipped with duplicate sensors for temperature (SBE3plus), conductivity (SBE4) and oxygen (SBE43). Additional sensors such as a WET Labs C-Star transmissometer, a WET Labs ECO-AFL fluorometer and an altimeter (PSA-916 Teledyne (Benthos)) were mounted to the CTD. no
