Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

During the HE616 cruise, the 54th annual sampling of the long-term benthic series took place. The sampling includes the biology of the benthic in and epifauna, sedimentological data and the investigation of biogeological processes (bioturbation) with the sediment profile camera (SPI camera). The results will contribute to a better understanding of the temporal changes of benthic functions in the German Bight (North Sea). As part of a doctoral thesis on the feeding ecology of demersal fish, solenette were sampled. The SPI camera was successfully deployed at station WB for five hours to investigate temporal activities of bioturbation. Furthermore, new components and functions of the autonomous underwater robot (AUV) "PAUL" (Polar Autonomous Underwater Laboratory) were to be tested. Unfortunately, it turned out that the diving robot was defective and therefore could not be used.
