Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The objective of the cruise was to investigate air-sea gas transfer processes under high winds and seas. There was a special focus on bubble-mediated gas exchange. We started one day late from Halifax, due to customs clearance problems. We then transited about 1.5 days to our first test station, where we deployed the AUVs and the bubble buoy. We then transited another day, for a second test deployment of the bubble buoy. For two days, we performed deep CTD casts in order to calibrate the dissolved oxygen sensors on the OSNAP west array moorings (specifically K8, K9, and K10). We then transited for 2 days to the tracer release area to find an ideal spot to release the tracer. We then spent between 2 and 3 weeks following the tracer. In the mean time, we deployed and recovered the SWIFT buoys, Slocum glider, wave glider, bubble/waverider buoy, and AUVs. During the campaign, underway measurements of gas fluxes, dissolved gases, temperature, wave state, and salinity. Every day two CTD stations were performed, including the deployment of in-situ pumps, and in the last days 5 deep CTD casts were performed. By 24 December were were transiting back towards St. John's. Measurements were completed before coming into port.
