Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Cruise 067I021-1 with R/V ATAIR focused on investigating the oceanographic state of the North Sea in summer 2023 and on determining the large-scale distribution of plankton and chlorophyll in the surface layer of the North Sea. Like previous North Sea Summer Surveys (NSSS) of BSH, cruise 067I021-1 intended to cover the North Sea following seven zonal coast-to-coast sections spanning the North Sea between 54? and 60?N. The section spanning the North Sea at 59?N, however, could not be sampled due to bad weather conditions. Consequently, the cruise delivered data from only six coast to coast zonal sections. Additional stations were carried at the entrance to the English Channel south of 54?N. The survey followed a grid of fixed standard station locations aiming at obtaining vertical CTD profiles and water samples.
