Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
The cruise was part of the ICES co-ordinated International Herring Larvae Surveys (IHLS) in 2022/23. The aim is to estimate the distribution and abundance of North Sea herring larvae for assessment purposes. The larvae samples are taken on a standard grid with a station to station distance of approx. 10 nm. Used gear is a modified GULF III plankton sampler (Nackthai). Area of investigation was the southern North Sea and parts of the English Channel. Samples were collected on 36 stations. Technical problems of the vessel and unfavourable weather conditions with high wind speeds and waves hampered a more successful sampling.
