Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Our goal is to map hydrothermal systems along a transect from the shallow, photic, near-coastal to the deep, aphotic zone further away from the coast and to sample their hydrothermal plumes. We will investigate this on cruise leg M192/1 along the Hellenic arc, a subduction zone with known hydrothermal activity. The Aegean Sea offers ideal conditions for investigating the submarine hydrothermal activity in the transition between shallow and deep water, as well as the influence of water depths on biogeochemical processes.
