Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
- To continue and extend biogeochemical, physical and biological time series observations at the Cape Verde Ocean Observatory (CVOO) and ESTOC - To study the spatio-temporal variability of biogeochemical parameters in the Eastern (tropical) North Atlantic - To conduct biological surveys in order to study fish & zooplankton distributions - To conduct multibeam echosounding for mapping of the seafloor - To train students from West Africa in Marine Sciences under authentic conditions via a "floating university" approach. Throughout the cruise West African students got involved in the different research components of PS135/2 (Floating University). A full time-series sampling was conducted at the Cabo Verdean time-series station CVOO as well. After this, daily stations along the transit towards Germany were carried out. Off Canary islands the ESTOC time-series site was sampled. The cruise continued with a daily station scheme on its way to Bremerhaven.
