Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

HE568: The cruise HE568 was determined to test the shipboard scientific instruments for proper installation and settings before the season starts. Additionally, a test of the net sonde system was planned. The test should by supported by technician of Norwegian firm Scanmar, but due to COVID-19 situation he could not participate. For this reason that project was canceled at all and the cruise was shortened from four to three days. The cruise started on Monday 2021/01/25 and ended 2021/01/27. The night from 25th to 26th RV Heincke paused in harbor of island Helgoland. Beside the crew, six colleagues of AWI and two technicians of firm FIELAX participated on the cruise. On 25th and 27th, a position north westerly of Helgoland was reached to collect water samples, which are requested for a PHD thesis. On the way to that position the water analyzing systems SBE21/SB38, Wetlabs fluorometer, as well as sound velocity sounder were tested. Some settings for data communication to the ship data management system must been adjusted. A leakage at sonde tank was detected and provisionally sealed. Welding for final repair was performed by BREDO shipyard after the cruise. Hydroacoustic systems were tested and calibration profiles for multibeam echo sounder and ADCPs were sailed, as well as the years before. Only slight differences to the previous applied settings were detected. In a previous shipyard, the functionality of nautical ECDIS system was extended to visualize positions of underwater positioning system IXBLUE GAPS. During a GAPS test, the transponder positions were displayed correctly on ECDIS. Beside above-mentioned scientific instruments, several more ship devices were tested.
