Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The main aim of this cruise was to analyse the current pelagic and benthic composition of the microbiological community with special focus of pathogenic Vibrio bacteria within and outside of eelgrass meadows and macrophyte populations in the salinity gradient of the Baltic Sea. To relate the composition of the microbial community to environmental conditions, hydrological and hydrochemical parameters (temperature, salinity, nutrients, carbon, Chl-a) as well as the density of seagrass and macrophyte meadows were measured. Samples were collected from the working boat Klaashahn by research divers at 8 shallow water stations in German, Finnish and Estonian waters. The cruise is part of a Baltic Sea wide programme in the frame of the EU funded project BaltVib "Pathogenic Vibrio bacteria in the current and future Baltic Sea waters: mitigating the problem" within the framework of the BiodivERsA programme "Biodiversity and climate change". Project partners are from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, and Germany.
