Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
During cruise HE570 (FJORDEXPORT) of RV Heincke, we conducted a process study of the Biological Carbon Pump in two Norwegian Fjords, Masfjorden and Lurefjorden. To do so, we deploy a suite of different state-of-the-art insitu imaging systems (PISCO, UVP5, UVP6HF/LF, CPICS, PELAGIOS, LOKI) to cross-calibrate and harmonize output data, to resolve a broad size spectrum, and to ensure intercomparison between instruments. We combine this high-resolution in situ imaging approach with hydrobios Multinet Midi and Maxi hauls, two sediment trap deployments in each fjord (combined with UVP6LF and Simrad WBAT echosounder). And additional goal were experiments with the helment jelly Periphylla periphylla that dominates Lurefjorden. This was the first concerted action of the newly formed Pelagic Ocean Optics Group (POOG), a collaborative effort of HZG, AWI and GEOMAR within HGFs Earth and Environment.
