Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Physical, chemical, biological research and oceanography This cruise is part of the module "Multidisciplinary Oceanographic Research" (MNF-bioc-301) and gave the students an in-depth experience of modern methods in biological oceanography and associated research areas. During the stay on board, students learned about the work flows on research vessel which sparked their interest for future participation in cruises. Samples were partly directly analysed on board while other samples will be used for later analyses during follow-up practical modules (in particular MNF-bioc-102 and 202). The spatial focus of this cruise lay on the western and central Baltic Sea. In addition to the detailed hydrological surveys various plankton samples were taken in each of the basin of the cruise area to investigate the distribution patterns of plankton species along the salinity surface gradient in the Baltic. Further sampling include eDNA and viralplankton samples for analysis in the lab.
