Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
The purpose of the cruise was the collection of hydrographic and current data at high spatial resolution near Goban Spur at about 47-49?N, as well as the exchange of moored instrumentation. The data will contribute to ongoing analysis on the continuity and persistence of the European Shelf Current off Ireland. The results will be combined with data from previous years (2016-2021; RV Maria S. Merian cruises MSM83, MSM73, MSM64 and RV Meteor cruise M164) e.g. to investigate the variability of the eastern boundary current system and the sources of water mass variability in the North Sea region. Furthermore, the spatial resolution of the mooring array will be enhanced by combining our data with measurements from an Irish monitoring program on the Celtic shelf. Analyses will be performed in close cooperation with the Irish partners (Maynooth University).
