Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
This campaign of measurements is the first one of 2021 in a series of five annual cruises to study the spatial and temporal variations of the Baltic Sea ecosystem. The work programme consisted of field data acquisition for the national environmental monitoring in the German EEZ as contract work for the Federal Maritime Agency (BSH). The second work package is part of IOW's Baltic Sea long-term observation program. performed since 1969 by this institute and its predecessor. The data acquired are the back bone of research on the natural variability as well as anthropogenic influences and are used for the regular national and international assessments of the state of the Baltic Sea (HELCOM 2023, NAUMANN et al. 2024).
