Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The objective of the cruise was to assess the selectivity of fishing trawls combining species-selection device (ROOFLESS device) and size-selective codend to avoid bycatch of Baltic cod in flatfish-directed fisheries. Three different gear configurations were tested: 1) ROOFLESS + BACOMA_120_105 2) ROOFLESS + T90_125_2P_LR 3) ROOFLESS + SMC_125 Experiments were conducted using the paired-gear method. Preliminary results reveal that combinations 2) and 3) helps to significantly reduce the bycatch of cod of any size, while keeping catches of flatfish species comparable to commercial trawls.
