Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Geological and geophysical investigations of the 140 km long Oceanographer transform fault and its ridge-crest-discontinuities (MAR 35 to 36?N). The project includes a) micro-earthquake survey of the transform fault, revealing depth distribution of micro-earthquakes and their relationship to the fabric of the transform, b) sampling of igneous rocks by dredging inside the transform valley and on the valley shoulders, c) identification of lithological boundaries using a deep-sea video system, and d) detailed seafloor mapping using the ship-board EM122 swath-bathymetry system. Data collection: OBS, Rock dredges, Seafloor video, Multibeam mapping, Parasound, Shipboard ADCP, Water bottle samples
