Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Bathymetric mapping of the seafloor - a German contribution to completing the map by 2030. On this cruise, a single, gapless area with a size of approximately 170,000 km square kilometers has been surveyed with a deep-sea multibeam echsounder. It is located in the southern North Atlantic between 14? and 17?N, along the transit route of Maria S. Merian from Mindelo, Cabo Verde to Bridgetown, Barbados. The data has been processed on board and are to be sent directly (near-real-time) to the international data portal PANGAEA and to the IHO DCDB, where the data will then be publicly available as public good. During the mapping survey a magnetometer/gradiometer has recorded the magnetic field of the oceanic crust, in order to get a better understanding of the magnetization of oceanic core complexes (megamullions).
