Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Atair 274: The German North Sea has been a location of extensive offshore wind farm construction for the last two decades. With the legal validity of the Windenergie-auf-See-Gesetz (WindSeeG) in 2017, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) on behalf of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) and the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, respectively, is in charge of the offshore site investigations for future offshore wind farms. Site investigations encompass, beside others, hydro-acoustic and high-resolution reflection seismic measurements. In order to adapt upcoming tenders to the specific geological conditions of each wind farm area and to assess the quality of future measurement campaigns, BSH collects hydro-acoustic and seismic data for reference purposes. In this context subbottom echosounder and high-resolution multichannel seismic datasets – using a Sparker as well as a MiniGI-Pulser as seismic sources –have been recorded in the wind farm areas N-3.7, N-6.7, and N-8.4, according to the Site Development Plan (FEP). Further seismic measurements have been conducted in wind farm clusters 9, 10, 11, and 12. Four additional transregional seismic profiles stratigraphically link several wind farm clusters and will help to widen the understanding of North Sea evolution during the Pleistocene glacials.
