Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

M157: The purpose of this first cruise within the BMBF cooperative reserach project EVAR is the collection of oceanographic data and water, as well as sediment samples to investigate linkages between the biological, biogeochemical and chemical environment and climate variability (change) in the Benguela Upwelling System (BUS) For this purpose CTD, pump-CTD, benthic lander systems, grab, dredge, mulitcorer, box corer, gravity corer and different sensors (e.g. MSS - Micro Structure Sensor) were frequently used along three E-W transects at about 17.5?S, 23?S and 25?S. Additionally, long time moorings were recovered and redeployed.
