Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Cruise AL 525 was essentially dedicated to students education. This marine geophysical field exercise was offered to students in the Bachelor Program "Geosciences" at the end of the 2./beginning of the 3. year of study, and to students in the Master Programs "Geosciences" and "Marine Geosciences" at the end of their first academic year. The field practice familiarized students with important marine geophysical measurement methods and their applications. For this purpose, measurement systems of the Faculty of Geosciences for seismic, bathymetric and magnetic data and the echosounder installed on board ALKOR (SES2000, EK60) was used, as well as the ships own CTD. The cruise was split into three legs to have altogether 21 students on board (7 per leg). Two legs was dedicated to the Bachelor students education, whereas one leg wasused for Master students training. The legs for Bachelor lasted for 4 days, the leg for Master students took about 6 days. The cruise took mainly place in german waters around Rugen and in the Kiel bay as well as mecklenburg Bay. The following scientific targets were adressed: glacial and tectonic structures, Holocene sedimentation, shallow gas occurrences as well as human-made structures (pipelines, cables).
