Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Atmospheric measurements with a sun-photometer and a thermal camera were conducted during the entire cruise. These measurements provided meridional cross-sections for atmospheric aerosol (amount and particle size), total atmospheric water vapor content and cloud properties (cloud cover as function of altitude and cloud structure information). In particular, the data with the new thermal camera are exciting as images every 10 seconds were recorded - with a lot of potential for analysis. The aerosol and water vapor data were sent each evening to the data-center at NASA and can be viewed already on the web (under AERONET and Marine Aerosol Network) as these data add to the pool of data used to evaluate global models and verify aerosol retrievals of satellites.
