Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The cruise had two main objectives: 1. Monitoring, reconstructing, and modelling the hydrographic control on the formation of a confined mid-shelf mud depocenter (off NW Iberia). 2. Linking oceanographic elements and internal waves with seabed shaping and sediment distribution on the uppermost slope (off NW Iberia). We used the following instrumentation: - Shipboard multibeam - Shipboard PARASOUND subbottom echosounder - Shipboard PARASOUND primary 18 kHz hydro-acoustic profiler - Shipboard ADCPs 38 and 75 kHz - Water sampler (Rosetta) with CTD - Particle camera (ParCA) - Rumohr corer - Grab sampler - 2-m long gravity corer - A Lander mooring carrying 3 ECM/OBS/CTD (current meters with optical backscatter sensors), 1 ADCP 300 kHz, 1 ADCP 1200 kHz, 1 LISST (in situ laser particle sizer) - ROV Strategy of the cruise was to combine hydrographic measurements and water sampling with bottom-near monitoring of physical and sediment suspension conditions with the observation of seabed structures and sediment sampling.
