Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
To assess the spatial distribution of the pelagic fish species mackerel and horse mackerel as well as the clupeids herring and sprat in the southern North Sea. In parallel piscivorous seabirds like gannets and herring gulls should be monitored by observers. Hydrographic parameters and plankton densities should be obtained to characterise the pelagic habitat. The results should serve as a basis for the quantification of predation in spatially resolved ecosystem models, developed in the projects NOAH (BMBF) and VECTORS (EU). Further on, the cruise was designed to serve as a sampling platform for PhD-, and advanced MARSYS students.
