Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Objectives: (1) Transport of Kiel Off-Shore Mesocosms for Future Ocean Simulations (KOSMOS) experimental platform along with other scientific equipment from Kiel to Las Palmas (2) Preparation of KOSMOS facility in Las Palmas harbor (3) Deployment of the KOSMOS facility in Melanara Bay, ca. 15 nm south of Las Palmas (see station list for positions of moorings and mesocosms) Brief report: The loading and transport of the KOSMOS mesocosm facility and related scientific equipment went smoothly and on time. Partial unloading of the equipment in Las Palmas harbor was conducted in parallel to preparing the mesocosms for deployment. Deployment of the six anchor weights in Melanara Bay occurred on January 28 (positions of anchor weights see station list) Deployment of 9 mesocosms in Melanara Bay occurred on January 29 (positions of mesocosms see station list) Four restricted area buoys were laid out on January 31 (positions see station list) All activities were carried out without problems and as planned.
