Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
During MSm23 88 kg of an artificial tracer as the beginning of the OSTRE (Oxygen Supply Tracer Release Experiment) was injected roughly at 11?N 21?W and 430m depth and a survey of the oxygen minimum zone in the area of the tracer release performed. Two gliders were recovered from the 5?N 23?W which were deployed during the previous cruise. Two transects along 14.5?N and 21?W were surveyed with typically 30nm station spacing using the CTD/Lowered ADCP/Underwater Vision Profiler (UVP) system. A few microstructure profiles and a day and night zooplankton net hauls completed the station program. In addition, underway measurements of upper ocean currents with the two shipboard ADCPs and hydrographic measurements with thermosalinograph, optode, pCO2 sensor and gas tension device (GTD) were performed.
