Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

RV Alkor-Cruise Al403 was carried out as field trip for students from Kiel University in German and Danish sectors of the Baltic Sea. The main objective was to introduce marine geophysical methods, i.e. seismic profiling (boomer and airgun seismics), OBS-seismics, and sidescan sonar imaging. Ground trouthing was carried out with a grab sampler. We also deployed the so-called p-cable on RV Alkor for the first time. The p-cable is a low cost, low fold 3D-sesimic system consisting of a cross cable and up to 16 12.5m-long 8-channel streamers. A single GI-gun is used as source. Main objective of the cruise was the investigation of shallow gas accumulations and glacial structures. The first leg was mainly carried out east of Bornholm, where we surveyed a complex pattern of glacial deposits and prograding sequences with the p-cable system. Unfortunately, the 3D-block was not finished due to bad weather at the end of the cruise. The second log focused on sediment waves and fluid escape structures around Rugen.
