Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Physical, chemical, biological resarch and fishery oceanography This multidisciplinary cruise was conducted within the framework of several projects. The different research activities were focussed on the Bornholm Basin, but also station work in the Arkona Basin, Gdansk Deep and Southern Gotland was performed. Investigations considered a detailed hydrographic survey of the Bornholm Basin and different plankton distributions, incl. zoo- and ichthyplankton and the distribution of pelagic clupeid and gadoid fish. In order to resolve the abundance and distribution of fish species in the investigated area as well fishery hauls as hydroacoustic methods were used. The physical measurements of this cruise were designed to investigate the quasi-synoptic three-dimensional distribution of temperature, salinity and oxygen. Other intentions of this cruise were the description of abundance, biomass, production and nutritional condition of zoo- and ichthyoplankton. Further emphasis was given on the meso- to small-scale horizontal distribution of their main vertebrate and evertebrate predators. Further, stock structure, gonadal maturation and egg production of sprat and cod was investigated. Experimental approaches during the cruise addressed spatial variability in fish egg specific gravity and the development success of cod eggs in relation to pH.
