Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
The objectives of the cruise P432 from Lisbon to Ponta Delgada in April/May 2012 (30.04-13.05.2012) on board R/V Poseidon were: 1) To investigate the water column properties along a meridional transect (22?W from 37?N to 31?N) in order to localize the position of the Azores Front and to understand the changes in biogeochemical properties. 2) To perform deep sea trials (at a water depth of minimum 4000 m) with newly developed pressure neutral marine technology and acoustic under water networks (DNS - Druck Neutrale Systeme). Cruise started and ended sucsessfully according to the working plan. Weather conditions were relatively harsh. The Azores Front could be located at appr. 36,5?N on 22?W and sucessfully measured and sampled by CTD-rosette casts for hydrographic and biological properties. The newly developed pressure tolerant systems (DNS-TS - BMBF-project) containing of a single conductor CTD-wire dockingstation, a full ocean depth pressure tolerant ROV as well as acoustic modems and access points could be tested in all components according to the project plan.
