Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Cruise ANT-XXVIII/5: On April 10th 2012 Polarstern started its Atlantic transfer ANT-XXVIII/5 from Punta Arenas to Bremerhaven. The cruise was utilized for continuous investigations of atmospheric and marine properties as well as for ocean and atmosphere interaction. Cloud observations, measurements of aerosols, cloud nuclei, oxygen isotopes of ozone and other trace gases complete informormation of the atmospheric state. Biological and chemical analyses were mainly focussed on bacteria of the Roseobacter clade, trace metals, phyto-plancton and further matters. This was done by collecting water samples and by light absorption in the water column. Additionally penetration depths of solar radiation were measured. Visual observations were undertaken to improve our knowledge about population densities of sea birds and marine mammal.
