Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Within the scope of the current concern about global climate change there is an urgent need for high spatial and temporal resolution data that cover both the industrial and pre-industrial time intervals. Such sediments are present in deposition centres of the Golfo di Taranto and Golfo di Manfredonia. Sediments form depo centres for the north and eastern Italian rivers. A detailed characterisation of the different source waters of these rivers, provide the basis for an adequate interpretation of the proxy signals from gravity core sediments. For this the upper waters, surface sediments and the suspended matter in front of the Po-river mouth in the northwestern Adriatic Sea and the river mouths of local Italian rivers draining the Apeninnes and central Italy have been sampled. High resolution sedimentary records in both Gulfs have been resampled.
