Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The main objective of the cruise was sample collection to contrain the development of hypoxia and anoxia in sediments and in the water column. Since all major Baltic Sea basins are permanently or periodically anoxic it is necessary to understand the effects e.g. in terms of cycling of nitrogen and phosphorus. Moreover the reaction of animals towards oxygen depletion living in the benthic environment is important to understand. Long and short sediment cores were taken and water column of the redoxcline was sampled in the Arkona, Landsort, Gotland Basins and in the Gdansk Deep.
