Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
On October 25th 2010 RV Polarstern started its Atlantic transfer ANT-XXVII/1 from Bremerhaven to Cape Town.The cruise was utilized for continuous investigations of atmospheric and marine properties as well as for ocean and atmosphere interaction. One objective of the meteorological working group consisted of the remotely sensed composition of aerosol in the atmospheric column. The temporal evolution of aerosol properties will be studied in order to explore aerosol-cloud interactions and to establish meridional gradients of tropospheric aerosols. A mooring was deployed equipped with a voice recorder to improve our knowledge about whales, breeding grounds. Bio-geographical measurements of primary production and nitrogen fixation were also performed. Measurements were completed by estimates of cosmic particles rates.
