Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Purpose of the cruise was to test the multibeam echosounders of the vessel after several upgrades had been made before the cruise in the shipyard. The motion sensor MRU5 has been upgraded to a Seapath 300 which enables the multibeam echosounders to apply the new FM mode. Consequently, a calibration procedure of the shallow water system EM710 and a "Sea Acceptance Test" (SAT) was necessary. The deep-water system EM120 has been upgraded to an EM122 and for this system also a calibration and a SAT was performed. The calibration and a test-survey of the EM122 was done in an area north of the Faeroe Islands at about 65? N in a water depth of about 3,500 m. The calibration and test of the EM710 shallow water system was done south of Iceland in a water depth of about 300 m. Data recorded during the cruise was solely for test and calibration purposes, no scientific research work had been done.
