Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Recovery of 24 ocean bottom seismological stations in the Gulf od Cadiz. Recovery of 24 ocean bottom seismological stations (OBS) in the Gulf of Cadiz that were deployed in January of 2010 during the cruise P393 of R/V POSEIDON. OBS recorded the local, regional and teleseismic earthquakes for 6 month. The major aim of the research is understanding seismotectonics and hence delinating featres that may cause seismic hazards in the Gulf of Cadiz. In addition, recorded travel times from earthquakes will be used to derive a crustal and upper mantle velocity model of the area. MARIA S. MERIAN left Valletta on July 17, 2010 at 10:00 p.m. local time and sailed toward west heading for the Gulf of Cadiz. R/V Maria S. Merian reached the Gulf on July 21, 2010 and started recovering OBS. All stations were recovered in the afternoon of July 23, 2010. MARIA S. MERIAN sailed northward, transiting towards Rostock.
