Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Field course for students: Water column sampling, acoustic sounding of seafloor and sediment structures, sediment sampling. Ther vessel left port (Bremerhaven) on May 27,2009 at 12:30 LT and set out to sample a grid of stations in the box 54?00`N/ 006?30`E and 55?15`N/ 008?30`E. Stations were occupied during daytime for water column and surface sediment work, during nights, we acquired acoustic profiles with a sparker echosounder. A total of 43 stations were occupied; at each station we deployed a series of up to three Niskin bottles to obtain water samples from 5 m above the seafloor, in mid-water and 5 m above sediment surface. The water samples were used for filtration of seston and samples for nutrient analyses. We also routinely sampled the surface sediments at each station with a multicorer.On June 2, we left the working area after finishing the last seismic survey and returned to port in Bremerhaven, where we arrived on June 02 at 08:00 LT. Here the expedition ended.
