Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Map distribution and measure acoustic abundance of cod (Gadus morhua), saithe (Pollachius virens), haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) and herring (Clupea harengus) in the coastal waters of Norway, from 62N to Russian boarder. Also conduct investigations on environment and pollution. A new investigation on the species of red sea cucumber (Stichopus tremulus) is also initiated during the cruise. \nThe cruise is conducted using two vessels, RV Jan Mayen and RV Johan Hjort - both Norwegian research vessels, and the area out into 12 nautical miles of the coast is covered. In some areas the cruise is extended even furthes off shore.\nIn addition to the main species, all species of fish are mapped and measured to species level. In addition benthic organisms are mapped to some agregate level. The species are sampled using standard research shrimp trawl, pelagic trawl and a 2m beam trawl.\nHydrographical measures are done using a CTD sonde and water is collected for chemical analysis at preset stations. Bottom samples are taken using a small box-corer.
