Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Investigations on iron-manganese crusts of the western Baltic Sea. Deploy and test of a new type of plankton and suspended matter sampling device. Geophysical and sedimentological investigations on surface sediments of the Gdansk-Basin, Polish sector. During the cruise, at total 34 stations sediment samples were obtained by a multi-corer. The cores were used for surface layer sampling (each station) and for pore water extraction and sediment slices of the whole cores at selected stations. The analytical programme in the home labs will include nutrients, major and trace element analyses as well as grain-size measurements. For sediment structure/texture characterization of the surface sediment layers, a high resolution sediment echosounder was used.
