Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The objective of the cruise was to validate an expert system model for the prediction of penetration of objects into the seafloor. Different acoustic systems were employed to characterise the seafloor properties, and for an overall mapping of the research sites. This was supported by a sides scan sonar mapping using an AUV. In addition different penetrometers were deployed to measure shear strength and related parameters of the seafloor. A sedimentological characterisation of the seafloor sediments and vane shear strength measurements on cores supplement the data set. The total number of scientists and technicians that participated (partly) on the cruise sums up to 33. In addition divers described parts of the experiments.
