Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Sediment sampling on the Vietnam Shelf (giant box corer, gravity corer, vibracorer) Data collection: Parasound, LISST (in-situ Laser Transmissometer) The general purpose of the cruise was Parasound profiling and sediment coring on the continental shelf off southern Vietnam aiming at the reconstruction of the late Quaternary shelf architecture and of the Holocene coastal evolution and sea-level history in relation to the Mkong River system. In addition two sediment traps have been recovered and released at the lower continental slope in the upwelling area SE of Nha Trang. The cruise was part of the bilateral German- Vietnamese research project Land-Ocean-Atmospheric Interactions in the Coastal Zone of Southern Vietnam. The working area covered the coastal zone off southern Vietnam between Nha Trang and Cape Camau at the border to the Gulf of Thailand. 1080 miles of Parasound profiles were recorded. 61 sediment stations have been sampled by Laser Particle Analyzer, Giant Box Corer, Gravity corer and Vibrocorer. More than 300 meters of sediment cores could be gained.
