Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The cruise assembled the field activity of two separate projects. The main objective of the EUROSTRATAFORM project is to verify Bari canyon efficiency as principal duct for sediment material transfer from north to centre of the south-Adriatic basin, and the main objective of MFSTEP project is to study the Southern Adriatic basin as an example of area characterized by strong exchange dynamics between atmosphere and ocean. For example in the southern Adriatic basin winter vertical convective mixing leads to the formation of new dense and oxygenated water and to replenishment of the nutrient pool at the surface.\n\nThe main operations carried out during the cruise were:\nrecovery of the two moorings with sediment traps and current meters.\nhydrological survey: water sampling for physics analysis (TSM, Coulter counter) and biogeochemistry (POC, TPN, isotopic composition of organic matter '13C and '15N and Chlorophyll) of suspended particulate matter.\nsediment sampling with gravity core and SW-104.\nseismic profiles with Chirp sonar.\n swath bathymetry with Multi-beam.
