Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

An alternative beam trawl technique (Pulskor) is under development in which instead of tickler chains electrical stimuli (pulses) are used to chase plaice and sole out of the bottom into the net. After a series of experiments with the research vessel 'Tridens', the gear is installed on a beam trawler to test its operational safety and viability of the system when used for a prolonged period of time in various fishing grounds and heavy weather. A second objective is to collect economic data (landings, maintenance, fuel costs) for a feasibility analysis.
