Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The MATSIS (Methods of Assessment of Trophic Status of the Irish Sea) project is a joint project between the Marine Institute and University of Wales, Bangor and funded under INTERREG IIIa. As part of this project there will be 4 surveys in the Irish Sea in 2005. This cruise is the second of the RV Celtic Voyager cruises with MATSIS. The objectives of MATSIS are: 1. Trial new monitoring techniques & equipment 2. Collect integrated (biological, chemical and physcial oceanography) data for designated locations in the Irish Sea. In situ data has been collected on temperature, conductivity (salinity), suspended matter (particle size determination; PSD), light transmission, spectral reflectance, upwelling and downwelling irradiance, water transparency (secchi desk), and phytoplankton fluorescence. Water and net haul samples have been collected for further analyses.
