Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Day 1 - GMIT cruise with the objective of working on 12 hydrographic stations in Galway Bay along Black Head, Marino Cottage, Silver Strand and Mutton Island. At each station TSD profiles were obtained using the GMIT TS meter, Secchi Depth and water colour were determined and bucket samples obtained to allow surface reference temperature and salinity to be measured using hydrometer and alcohol thermometer. Samples were collected at 0m and -5m using the CTD rosette. Day 2 - GMIT cruise examining various pieces of oceanographic sampling equipment present on the vessel, including the Van Veen and Day grabs, Reineck box corer, basic plankton nets and Bongo nets, Nansen reversing oceanographic water bottles and reversing thermometers and the otter trawl. Day 3 - Student training on oceanographic equipment in the field.
