Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The MATSIS (Methods of Assessment of Trophic Status of the Irish Sea) project is a joint project between the Marine Institute and the University of Bangor in Wales, Bangor and funded under INTERREG IIIa. As part of this project there will be 4 cruises in the Irish Sea in 2005. Two of these cruises will take place on the Celtic Voyager. The objectives of MATSIS are 1. Trial new monitoring technique and equipment. 2. Collect integrated (biological, chemical & physical oceanographic) data for designated locations in the Irish Sea. In situ data was also collected on temperature, conductivity (salinity), suspended matter, light transmission, spectral reflectance, upwelling and downwelling irradiance, water transparency, and phytoplankton fluorescence. Water and net haul samples were collected for subsequent analyses.
