Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
The aim of the cruise was the investigation of the phosphorus dynamics in the surface layer of the central Baltic Sea and its importance for the development of diazotrophic cyanobacteria. During the cruise the pools of inorganic (DIP) and organic (DOP, POP) phosphorus compounds were determined to figure our their rule in the blooming of cyanobacteria later the year. Several experiments were performed to determine the amount of bioavailable organic phosphorus by their usage by cyanobacteria and heterotrophic bacteria. Radiotracerexperiments delivered information about phosphate uptake and phosphate mineralisation. Additionally a new Pump-CTD was tested under the special conditions of the research vessel and high resolution sampling for trace metals and nutrients was performed. Samples were also taken to investigate the isotopic composition of iron.
