Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
This was the second cruise of the field program planned for the second phase of the GLOBECproject, prolonged in March 2005. Investigations were carried out in the German Bight, North Sea. Research focused on phyto- zoo- and ichthyoplankton distribution in relation to hydrographic fronts and served to measure conditions after thermoclines have established. Major goals were the description of abundance and biomass of phyto-, zoo- and ichthyoplankton in different water masses across tidal mixing- and river-plume fronts. Concurrently, measurements of hydrography and fluorescence were carried out and experiments on zooplankton production (copepod egg production and egg hatching) as well as on nutrition and digestion in scyphomedusae and ctenophores were performed.
