Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
The cruise was conducted within the framework of the project GLOBEC-Germany II 'Trophic interactions between zooplankton and fish under the influence of physical processes' in the German Bight and the North Sea. Research focused on phyto- zoo- and ichthyoplankton distribution in relation to hydrographic fronts and served to measure conditions with well established fronts and thermoclines. Concurrently, measurements of hydrography and fluorescence were carried out and experiments on zooplankton production (copepod egg production and egg hatching) were performed. The investigations focused on the relationships between physical processes, plankton and fish in order to enhance the understanding of the principal mechanisms governing recruitment success in sprat and herring in the North Sea.
