Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Within the two projects - CODYSSEY "Cod spatial dynamics and vertical movements in European waters and implications for fishery management", and - GLOBEC Germany "Trophic interaction between zooplankton and fish under the influence of physical processes" a hydrographic survey was run in the Arkona Basin. Additionally in the Bornholm Basin, the Stolpe Trench, the Gdansk Basin and in the Gotland Basin the survey also considered investigations on horizontal distribution of zoo- and ichthyplankton as well as on pelagic clupeid and gadoid fish. Other major goals were the description of abundance and biomass of zoo- and ichthyoplankton. Further emphasis was given on the meso- to small-scale horizontal distribution of their main predator fish species herring and sprat. Stock structure, gonadal maturation, egg production and survival of sprat and cod was investigated.
