Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The prime logistical goal of Leg 5 of FS POLARSTERN cruise ANT XXII was the termination of her seven months long 22th expedition to Antarctica. The prime scientific objective of the trans-Atlantic passage was to service two near-bottom moorings on the sill of the Vema Channel in continuation of the already available long-term abyssal time series since 1991. In addition miscellaneous other underway observations were carried out. The SOLO float deployments are a contribution to the international project ARGO. They serve the description and modelling of the state of the ocean with respect to climate variability. They are expected to collect and transmit data within up to five years ahead of us.
